We love all the super fun events we get to have here at 61 Local, like the recent visit from local cook Cathy Erway. Cathy brought her eating-in expertise to teach a class on how to make dumplings. She taught a group of folks how to make this treat in the comfort of their own kitchen. There were traditional, vegetarian, and even a cheese burger dumpling for people to try!

Red Hook is a place that holds not only some of our favorite people, but also some of the amazing food folks that we get to work with every week here at 61 Local. So, it seemed fitting that the Sunday after Sandy hit we all rallied together to give back to the neighborhood. The South Brooklyn Running Club was quick on their feet and organized an awesome local fundraiser run with the help of 61 Local. The response was inspiring! Hundreds of people from all over the borough made their way to 61 to help raise money for the Red Hook Initiative, an integral organization committed to rebuilding one of our favorite neighborhoods. We were honored to be asked to host the start and finish of the race. We served up some pre and post race brew to the many thirsty runners.
Come help us continue to support Red Hook and our local community! Join us this Thursday when Manufacture New York holds their benefit for Red Hook recovery. There will be a silent auction full of one-of-a-kind, NYC made designs. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Red Hook Initiative. Be sure to swing by, and help us celebrate the resilience of Red Hook! -

Chefs from Seersucker, Parish Hall, Court Street Grocers, and SCRATCHbread served up some mouth watering dishes, while Doug from Bitter and Esters helped folks find the perfect beer pairings. It was great to see the food community come together in support of BK. This farm is leading the charge in creating important soil standards for school yard gardens throughout the state.
