Last week CSA members and local food enthusiasts alike gathered at 61 Local for a community dinner like no other! We had the pleasure of hosting a farm sourced five-course meal presented by Local Roots NYC and Chef Kei Ohdera. The Valkeyrie Dinner highlighted international flavors Chef Kei has encountered in his worldwide training. Of course, the tasty offerings were well paired with some of our favorite local brews that are still on tap. Swing by for a taste this week!
Last week some 61 Local staff dropped by Red Hook Winery for a tour from Daren, the winery’s managing cellar master. We visit all of the wine makers we work with to know more about their process and taste wines straight from the barrel. Its how we pick which wines to keg. They go from the aging room to a glass near you! We can’t wait to get the ones we tasted this day on tap. And we’ve got plenty of other awesome things happening with our wine this season, so be sure to check out what we have on our menu next time you stop in!
We’re all about some quality local craft here at 61 Local. While we’ve got loads of food and beverage vendors to show off, we also get to work with some pretty rad local craftsmen. Most recently, we were able to get together with the guys from Work Of to host a one night exhibition of all New York made furniture and home decor. Charlie and John were able to completely transform our mezzanine space into the living room of our dreams! It was a great night to celebrate Work Of and all the amazing things that are being made in Brooklyn. Can’t wait to have these guys back with us again!
Ladies and globetrotters of New York met last month at 61 Local for the Go Girl Travel Meetup “One Night for Women” event! The Go Girl Travel Network is a community of 10,000 women in 110 countries around the world who meet locally to share stories and tips about living and traveling abroad. The night ended with a bang with an exciting performance from a local Bollywood fusion dance team! It was an awesome time full of great discussion, laughs, and drinks!
Need some more global culture in your life? Come see a special screening of Haiti: Where Did the Money Go? with us. The film explores post-earthquake Haiti, still struggling even after billions of dollars were donated from the U.S. Catch it on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm, with a panel discussion to follow. See you there!
Last month we had our 1st Poetry Embroidery Circle!
In the style of Twitter, poets were invited to read their 140 or fewer character poems, as well as other pieces of their choice, while audience members attempted to stitch what they heard. Although fingers weren’t as quick and nimble as hoped, a huge turn out sat listening and amused, gaining a new appreciation forthe delicate craft.
Another fun and social gathering is headed our way!

We love all the super fun events we get to have here at 61 Local, like the recent visit from local cook Cathy Erway
. Cathy brought her eating-in expertise to teach a class on how to make dumplings. She taught a group of folks how to make this treat in the comfort of their own kitchen. There were traditional, vegetarian, and even a cheese burger dumpling for people to try!
We’ve got some pretty sweet events going on this week, too. Swing by Tuesday night at 7pm for another amazing installment of The Folding Chair Reading Series
